Can a foreign worker work for someone else?

Foreign workers who come to Canada on a temporary work visa are not allowed to work for anybody else unless they have been permitted to do so. Obtaining permission to work for another company is a time-consuming process. Employees are unlikely to try to move jobs if they are treated decently, and the provisions of their employment contract are satisfied.

How long does the process take?

The length of the procedure is determined by the post being filled and the country from which they intend to hire. The shortest period of time for a foreign worker to be in Canada is about one month. From start to finish, the process of hiring a foreign worker might take anywhere from 3 to 7 months.

What are my obligations to my foreign worker?

As an employer, you must treat international workers in the same way as you would treat Canadian employees. Before a foreign worker is given a work permit, the foreign worker and the potential employer must sign a contract. The obligations between the employer and the employee are outlined in this contract. If the foreign worker fails to match the company’s hiring standards, the employer is not obligated to maintain them and may cancel their employment contract.

How much do I have to pay for wages?

The compensation rate is determined by the sort of employment for which your organization is hiring. The Foreign Worker Program establishes salary requirements that are locally standardized for various locations in British Columbia.

Do we have to deduct CPP & other taxes from foreign workers?

Employers must deduct the same taxes from their foreign employees as they would from their Canadian employees.
